Iodine is essential for a variety of functions in the body such as overall metabolism, growth, and cognitive development. Iodine is used by the body to synthesize the thyroid hormones T3 (triiodothyronine) and T4 (thyroxine). The nutritional cofactors in Iodine Px support the organification of iodine as well as the sodium-iodide symporter.
Selenium is an essential component of the enzyme iodothyronine deiodinase, which is important for the conversion of T4 (inactive) to T3 (active). In this way, selenium may help to maintain thyroid hormone stability. Copper is included to help to control multiple hormone levels. Riboflavin is important for the production of flavoproteins (e.g., FMN and FAD) and the activation of B6. It is also responsible for the coenzyme conversion of tryptophan to niacin, and folate to tetrahydrofolate.
